GREAT NEW AUTHOR

This is a familar story - very alpha male with feisty heroine. Why choose this one over all the other available? I'll give you three reasons:

(1) the most important one, author knows how to write a good story and the characters stand out despite them being the same "types" as a lot of other books;
(2) the book was worth time and money spent reading it; and
(3) the relationship was hot.

Another huge plus is that although it is the first in a series (with the second book due in December 2013); happily, this book is a stand alone story with no cliff hanger ending. There are some minor editing issues but nothing to ruin the story.

Very Consuming!

"What are you thinking?" She asks me, searching my eyes. If I press harder against her, she'll be able to feel me and put two and two together. Instead, I smile. "It isn't very PG, I'll tell you that." - Lol!! So naughty Seth!! ;)

The good: Solid, intriguing, and engaging read! The story line is intriguing, the characters are likable, and there was just enough "smutt" to keep me sated. ;)

The bad: Had some typical elements that we come across in reads: good girl meets bad boy; bad boy thinks he's not good enough for whatever reason; some pushing and pulling going on between them; characters give in to their attraction; some drama occurs; they live happily ever after.

MY THOUGHTS/REVIEW:

"Consumed" was a lovely, lovely read to pass the time. I swear, whenever I had free time I would grab my e-reader in between my babysitting gig and would sneak away to read me some more of Seth Marc!! I was that obsessed with finishing this! lol.

I also appreciated the fact that "Consumed" wasn't all about sex and had kept this part of Seth and Olivia's relationship steamy yet tasteful. Sometimes in these kinds of reads that's all I come across and it's annoying and redundant at times. Makes me skim or skip over a lot of the sex/love scenes which thankfully never happened in this book!!

SO, MY VERDICT:

I HIGHLY RECOMMEND "Consumed" for those of you looking for a hot, MMA fighter, with a heart of gold!

"Consumed" will literally consume your life for a couple of hours. It was that addictive for me. I'm not saying that it's completely mind-blowing and life changing but a couple parts were it was really touching and made you think/re-evaluate your life and it's priorities.

I'm really hoping that Ms. Madi will write more books and make this into a series. Perhaps, make book two about Jackson and Selena, book two on Chase (Olivia's brother whom I have already developed a mini crush on!), and book three on Seth's mysterious sister and her rock star boyfriend??

*crosses fingers* please make it happen if possible!!

The struggle was REAL...

When I purchased Consumed there were only five and four star reviews doting on how amazing this book was compared to others like it. I paid the fee and began to read, at first I liked the story. I enjoyed Seth and the whole MMA aspect of it but then, it started going downhill for me and fast. I'm not sure if it was the disconnect with the characters, even at the end I didn't really feel like I knew them. Or if it was that Olivia seemed flighty to me, she had a job but was always calling off from it, not going in or slacking while she was there, but yeah I lost interest about half through and then had to struggle through the rest simply because I paid for as much for it as I did.

If you really want to read this wait until its $.99 or free.

Busy parents that still want to put a healthy meal on the table?

There have been a lot of Paleo cookbooks that have come out this summer, and the majority of them have been outstanding. However, this book by Tammy is my favorite of them all because it is part cookbook and part "how to keep sane while feeding a family and working full time and also having a life". I was fortunate to get an advanced copy and have been cooking out of this book for a few weeks now and every single recipe I have made has been easy to assemble, easy to cook, and delicious. But the best part for me is that the book gives instructions on how to prepare it when you have time (for me, Sunday afternoons) and then how to cook it when you need it (for me, any given night throughout the week). It's a great guide to let you know what freezes well too, so a lot of the meals I made double and triple batches of the recipe and kept one to cook that week and froze the others to have for dinners later. One time in the kitchen with all the messy prep work and 2-3 meals after that that are ready to go when I am? Working mother's dream. The crock pot recipes are also great for those days when I have time earlier in the day but maybe not so much later (um, every weekend?). This book is great if you are a working parent who have kids who nap too - cook meals for the week on Sunday when they are napping and hang out with them during the week after work. Way too many of my nights have been spent in front of a stove and not spending my precious hour that I get with them after work before they go to bed. But with this I can get most of it back! I cannot recommend this book enough for anyone who feels like they don't have enough time but yet still wants to cook nutritious home-cooked meals for their family.

Hands Down, Our Family's New Favorite Cookbook!

Oh Goodness, Tammy has truly outdone herself with this one! And this busy working Mom, who feeds three hungry men daily, is extremely grateful! Our family has been Paleo for well over two years now, and this book has already given us several new favorites that my kids request on weekly meal planning day. Really! My kids are NOT the eager ones in the kitchen, wanting to help. But finally... FINALLY... because they love the taste of this food so much, they voluntarily ask me to stir and add ingredients now. It brings me to tears... For real. It's priceless.

I own several Paleo cookbooks: Some recipes knock it out of the park, some are way too simple and "easy." And quite honestly, many of the ones that look luxuriously amazing in photos often end up tasting just... well... "meh." They are either too time-consuming, have too many crazy ingredients, turn out the wrong consistency, or just fall flat by being bland and have to be re-vamped beyond just simple little tweaks.

I love every chapter of this book: Make & Freeze, Low & Slow, On the Go, Room Service, Travel Treats, and Week In a Day. The indexes in the back: How to Store Anything, Stocking your Paleo Kitchen, Grocery Lists, and blank Freezer Inventory sheets are awesome resources also. I find that when my pantry and freezer are stocked how you suggest, I can wake up on any given weekend morning or zoom home on any busy weekday evening and still whip up something healthy and delicious for my family.

So far, my boys wanted me to give you a "shout out" for the following recipes:

1) Sloppy Joe's! (pg. 84 - a huge pot is simmering now, while we are cozy in front of rainy day football) Your combination of flavors in this recipe is absolutely spot on! My only regret is that I can never seem to make enough to have for dinner AND to freeze ahead. No matter how much of it I make, they devour it ALL. We like to saute the onions and peppers in duck fat from Fatworks.

2) Breakfast Muffins (pg. 58) My kids love playing with different add-ins. They are thrilled to finally find a recipe that is perfectly moist with just the right amount of sweetness. Sometimes we add Enjoy Life soy-free chocolate chips.

3) Bacon & Onion Roast (pg. 128) Yep, the mouth-watering title says it all. Plus, the 8 simple ingredients are in my kitchen 95% of the time, so the 10-15 minute prep in the morning is SO easy for a busy weeknight meal. The leftovers with fresh bacon crumbles on top have proven to be a fantastic lunchbox option, too.

4) Chicken Piccata Bites (pg. 200) A refreshing and easy weeknight meal with simple, hearty yumminess.

These four recipes are just the tip of the iceberg and I can't wait for this coming week!

Honestly, I've been in a daily grind and meal planning rut lately and you've snapped me out of it with MORE than just the recipes. Your heartfelt narrative in the beginning reminds me anew to live simply, reconnect with loved ones, choose work that I'm passionate about, play, have adventures and have FUN! Thank you for injecting a shot of new inspiration into our lives and our food!
