Really nothing... there.

There is no real thought to the work, no investigation or consideration of anything written in the work at all save for a single page of thought that really did not add anything to the conversation about the myth of Succubi and Incubi.

I hesitate to call this a book, it is more of a pamphlet, and one that is less than engrossing by any means for myself at least and I think for anyone that has done the barest amount of online research about Succubi or Incubi.

Also I found it irritating that there is all sorts of author information at the beginning of the work that pushes the actual content to the point where it cannot be seen in previews on Amazon. It feels dishonest to me at least.

At least the author had the decency to price this work at 99 cents when I read it.

I’m giving this work a half pitchfork out of five.

Short, really very much a cut and paste work with little in it that one could not find in Wikipedia in the first place. A single page of thought does not help to make this work any better.

The memorable series continues.

There are some authors you read and you think, I wish I could write as good as they do. S.M. Boyce is one of those authors. I've been hooked on this saga since book one, and I can't help but enjoy this one as well. The story telling and world created are amazing. The characters seem like real people, and I love how much Kara has grown in this series.

The thing with this book is that it is clearly a set up for the fourth book. By that I mean that, especially in the beginning, there isn't much forward progress to the story timeline. The opening half of the book felt stagnant and focused a lot of setting the characters abilities and alignments for the fourth act. Once the book took off, it became the fast paced read I enjoyed so much from the first two books.

All in all this is a must read for Fantasy fans, the series is memorable and the writing is amazing. If you loved the first two books, you will certainly enjoy this one.

Come Explore the World of Ourea!!

This is an awesome read!! Ms Boyce has done an exemplary job creating this world & sharing it w/us from the first book thru Heritage. As w/the previous books Ms Boyce continues to reveal the world of Ourea bit by bit. Just when you think the world is complete, you find something new. All of the characters continue to grow, & change. I love how each individual reveals hidden secrets, or personality traits that you haven't seen. Kara & Braedon's relationship continues to grow slowly. The interaction between them is a pleasure to observe. The bond they share grows stronger w/each obstacle they face, & there are definitely plenty. Not so much that you get tired of them, but enough to keep you enthralled. And the twists & turns that the story takes keeps you on the edge of your seat. There are several surprises in store for the reader. Again I had a hard time putting this book down, & when I reached the end, I wanted more. I'm really looking forward to Illusion, the next book in the series.

Great characterization and fantastic storytelling!

Before war comes training, scouting, planning, and the gathering of allies. Kara must train to control her new abilities while Braeden strategizes to bring his allies together to destroy his evil father, Carden, and take the throne. But with politics comes intrigue, distrust, and betrayals. Within their flimsy alliance is a person who will offer Kara and Braeden to Carden—and succeed…

“You’re selfish and obsessed with your personal agendas. But I’m not here for you. I don’t even like you. I’m here to protect Ourea and its people.”—Kara

*Falls over* Wait, how could a book end so beautifully with awesome closure on a major plot line and then throw in an epilogue that makes your jaw drop? Oh…my…Vagabond, book four needs to come right away, because I can’t wait to see what happens next with that shocker of an epilogue! Don’t get me wrong, it’s not one of those endings which makes you throw the book at the wall in rage. It’s the kind of ending where you’re like “holy smokes that minor character is a serious bad**s, and I didn’t see that coming! Boy am I excitedly awaiting the next book!”

Ok, backtracking from the non-epilogue part of the book. So one of the things that you wouldn’t be able to tell from the book synopses is that there’s an awesome, awesome romance between Kara and Braeden (totally PG) where whenever they have scenes together, it’s so sweet! This book really amps up their feelings for each other and progresses their relationship along in a way that made me cheer for them! What’s funny is that they don’t even share scenes for half the book yet you can sense their love for each other amidst the craziness in their lives. With all the propensity for evil and oodles of uncontrollable power coursing through their veins, together they’re like a normal couple just wanting to spend time with each other. Loved them!

So, what happened in the other half of the book? Think Karate Kid with the wax on and wax off scene. Kara would be that Karate Kid except with a lot more punch. In fact, one tiny misaimed punch could cause mass causalities so it’s pretty important to get that wax on and off correctly. And then there’s more training with an unlikely character and more training with some new allies. Lots of training. And political squabbles. Can’t forget about the political squabbles!

The Bloods, the four leaders in their shaky alliance, and Heirs still can’t seem to figure out that working together means staying alive and fighting each other means death. Despite the fact Braeden and Kara are powerful in their own right and can help them, some of the Bloods are still trying to figure out ways how to destroy the former and control the latter. Then comes the shocker betrayal! I mean there are many mini-betrayals in comparison, but this one? Wow!

Like the first books, there is great characterization and fantastic storytelling that drew me into the story. The politics the author set up are like a bad wreck you can’t tear your eyes from. You know it’s going to get worse, but you have to read more even though you’re afraid of what it’ll mean for the characters! We also get a heart-wrenching look back at some important figures in Kara’s life, which shows what she has to fear. It’s a hard book to put down. I cannot wait for the next (which apparently is the last) book in the saga! This is a 5 out of 5 for me and going on the favorites shelf!
